IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia Marie
(Rathe) Joyelle
May 7, 1941 – September 21, 2024
Patricia Marie (Rathe) Joyal Joyelle, 83, of Hermantown, a kind, generous, and loving mother, grandmother, and friend, died peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. Pat filled her life to the brim with joy, humor, and art. She lived for 50 plus years on Park Point before having to reluctantly leave The Point in 2020 due to her bout with Covid. She carried with her many precious memories, treasured friends, and meaningful accomplishments.
As a teenager, she worked with a dog breeder, helping to train and show dogs. During those years, dogs were her life. Her dream was to show at Westminster, but when the dream was about to become a reality, she declined and chose education instead. She earned a BA and MFA from the University of Minnesota Duluth, and spent the rest of her life in a passionate and successful love affair with art. She was a creator, connoisseur, and collector. Throughout her career as an artist, it was truly amazing the depth and breadth of her creative work. From oil paint and watercolors to pottery, photography, jewelry, fiber arts, and more, Patricia was truly a creative and innovative soul. She was full of joy. Even in the down times, there was always a smile on her face.
After her divorce, she changed her name to Joyelle, to reflect the joie de vivre she felt in her soul.
She lived and breathed Art. In 1970 she launched the gathering of artists which would become the Park Point Art Fair in 1972. Pat worked tirelessly for many years to ensure that the Art Fair was the successful high-quality event that it remains today.
Her chin was always up, and she always had a smile on her face - regardless of the obstacles. While she had more than her fair share of battles, she never had a "Poor Me" attitude, and she was always a fighter.
She co-owned two art galleries, Interim Design Studio and Blue Iris Gallery.
Over the years she received many accolades. She was thrilled to be included in the Quilt National of Athens, Ohio. Her work has been in collections and has been included in the Goldstein Gallery at the University of Minnesota.
Pat was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a kind, generous and loyal friend.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Maynard and Lucille; and brother, Ken.
Patricia is survived by her son, Patrick (Jennifer) Joyal; grandchildren, Cole and Justine Joyal; sister, Beth (Warren) Post; niece, Heather (Andy) Wallin and their children, Taylor and Jordan; and niece, Sara Post, and her children, Isabella and Johanna.
