Nikolaus "Big Nick" Woods, 58, of Duluth, MN, passed away on 05/17/2019 at Solvay Hospice House. Nick was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania to Eileen C. Woods (Ott) and Ron Kerns on 12/18/1960. He was later adopted by his mother's husband Sidney H. Woods. He went to high school at Penn Hills High and graduated in 1978. He went on to earn a degree as a Natural Resources Specialist from Staples Technical College. For many years, he worked as an Insulation Specialist for the Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Center, and Duluth Basement Systems. He enjoyed Fishing, riding his Harley, spending time with his family and friends, and working on his home. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in June of 1983, and he received a Certificate of Appreciation from the United Stated Department of Agriculture for volunteer service in May of 1990. Nikolaus was preceded in death by his mother Eileen C. Woods, father Ron Kerns, step father Sidney H. Woods, and step son Richard. Nikolaus is survived by his wife Linda, son Nick, daughter Jennifer (Chad), stepson Jeramiah, stepdaughters Melanie, Trisha, and Rachel (Luke), 12 grandchildren, Brother Ron (Julie) Woods,Sister Cindy Woods,Nephew Christopher Woods, and Nephew Ryan Woods. Visitation will be held on May 22nd, 2019 at 9 AM, at the Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, with funeral/memorial service to follow at 10 AM on the same day. Burial will follow at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery-Duluth, 4777 Highway 53 Saginaw, MN 55779. Sunrise Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements.
