One of Duluth's brightest stars burned out on 8/11/2019. Mildred "Millie" Evangeline (Peterson) Coole, 99, passed away at Diamond Willow Assisted Living. She was a lifelong, devoted Duluthian who, along with her husband Chad, raised their family of 4. Born on 7/29/1920, she graduated from Denfeld and attended Duluth Teachers College.
Millie loved golfing at Ridgeview and playing bridge with Chad and their many friends. She cherished being a teller at the drive-through window at North Shore Bank of Commerce in Duluth.
Chad's untimely death in January, 1984, uprooted retirement plans. After a time, she stayed busy by volunteering at the hospital and by playing bridge with various groups. She also joined a dance group consisting of "slightly aged" ladies, who once performed on stage at the DECC; and was a member of the Duluth Women's Club.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Hannah Peterson; husband, Chad; grandsons, Roger Anderson and Michael Blackledge; great-granddaughter, Kelsee Blackledge; and brother, Harold Peterson.
Millie will be dearly missed by her children, Clarke (Gloria) of Duluth, Cheryl (Roger Anderson) of Fergus Falls, Cindy (Tony Nelson) of Lakeland, FL, and Chad (Linda) Sun Lakes, AZ; granddaughters, Angie LaFlamme, Amy Hutchins, and Christi Vannorman; grandsons, Adam Coole, Ryan Coole, Jeff Blackledge, and Scott Coole; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Her family wishes to share their appreciation for the loving care she received at Keystone Bluffs and at Diamond Willow.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 19th at the American Legion, 5814 Grand Ave, from 1pm to 4pm. Interment will be at Forest Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations preferred to the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association in her honor.
