Michael Schmid, 69, of Duluth, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017. Mike was born on July 7, 1947, in Middletown, Ohio, to Edward & Joy Schmid. Mike graduated from William Kelly High School in Silver Bay.  After high school Mike moved to Duluth.  Mike was the first graduate of the MN Apprentice & Training Program for Photography.   Mike was first employed by Basgen Photography and later owned Basgen Photography.  Mike owned a vast photo and negative collection depicting the history of Duluth, the area's railroad, mining and boating industries.  This collection will be donated to a place that can be accessed by the public for public use. For many years Mike was an active Jaycee serving at the Local, State and National levels. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; and an infant sister.  He is survived by his cousins, Sharron and Jay Moon of Tucson, AZ; and friends, Ralph Johnson, Bob & Anne MacLean, Ed Murray, Jim Anderson and Jeff Urbaniak. VISITATION: 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 12th at Sunrise Memorial Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, Hermantown, with funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. Burial will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery, alongside his parents.
