. Marjorie Alice Cooke Lawrey, 87 of Hermantown passed away Sunday October 6, 2013 in St. Mary's Essentia Health. She was born on August 8, 1926 to George Edsel and Alice (Bartlett) Cooke. She graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1944. She married Phillip Albert Lawrey in 1943 at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. Marjorie was a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone for many years and also was a homemaker that loved baking cookies for her children. She was known as the mom in the neighborhood and very devoted to her own family besides the children in the neighborhood. She took care of disabled children at Nekton school. She was very active in church, PTA, and later was a cashier at Red Owl and Frontier Grocery stores from 1968 until her retirement in 1972. She volunteered at St. Luke's Hospital from 1985 until 2000. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband Phillip in 1993 and daughter Debra McConathy in 1995, her parents, and a brother George Cooke in 2006. She is survived by two sons Phillip John (Debi) Lawrey of Apple Valley, MN, and Leslie David Lawrey of Duluth, two daughters Agatha Marie (Jack)Standley of Port Ludlow, WA, Donna Ellen (Donald) Buck of Duluth and sisters: Donna Pomeroy, Joanne Ruberg, Evelyn Holte, Marylee Wiseman, Joan Crossman, Susie Crossman, Margaret Johnson, Doris Siegle, Bonnie Grubb, Barbara Olson and brothers; David Cooke, Gerald Cooke, Tom Cooke and grandchildren John and Allyson Lawrey, Kathryn Wind, Bryan and Dan Buck and Callie Helegeson, Michael, Craig, and Joe Standley and several great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Thursday October 10, 2013 from 6:00 PM until the 7PM Funeral Service in Sunrise Funeral Home. Pastor Rollie Bockbrader officiating. Interment in Sunrise Cemetery.
