Maria Katariina Hintsa passed away on Friday September 29th, 2017 at Viewcrest Health Center in Duluth, MN. Maria was born on July 29th, 1932 in Kuortane, Finland. Maria was born a U.S. citizen as her father was born in Eveleth, MN. After her grandfather was injured in a mining accident, the family moved back to Finland. Maria moved to the USA when she was 20. She lived with relatives in Illinois until she moved to Duluth. In Duluth she met he future husband, LeRoy, who has known her relatives for many years. Maria and Leroy have been married for 63 years. Maria was talented in many areas; including baking, cooking, sewing, knitting, painting and ceramics. In this country, Maria is survived by her husband, LeRoy; three children, Mary Lee of Duluth, Mark (Moira) of Fairfield, CT, and Kevin of Martinez, CA; four grandchildren; Kyle (Amie) Brower, Matthew Hintsa, Craig Brower, and Michael Hintsa; and great grandson, Connor Brower. In Finland, she is survived by her sisters, Ellie, Raili (Juhani), Lisa, Pirkko (Risto); her brother, Veikko; and many nieces and nephews in both countries. MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 am Saturday, October 14th at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, Hermantown.
