IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lois Ann
Olsen
September 28, 1932 – October 27, 2022
Lois Ann Olsen, 90, of Hermantown, passed peacefully on Oct. 27, 2022. She was born in Duluth on Sept. 28, 1932, the middle of three daughters to Alfred and Tillie Gagne.
Lois was a lifelong resident of Duluth and Hermantown MN, attending Longfellow, West Jr., and Denfeld High School, graduating in 1950. Through the many years, class reunions were most important, missing only one. In 1952 she married Eugene "Vince" Bergman at the Salem Covenant Church. They had two children; Brad (1955) and Julie (1957). They later divorced. In 1961, Lois married Kenneth Olsen. She was very proud of her children. Brad graduated University of Minnesota (Duluth/Minneapolis), in Aerospace Engineering. Julie graduated UMD, in interior designer. Lois worked steadily for 45+ years and held numerous office positions in the real estate and law professions. Her longer tenures included the Duluth Board of Realtors and law firms Bouschor McNulty and Johnson Killen Thibodeau. She often said the best years of her life were spent with her husband Ken at their lake house on Lake Vermillion. There, they loved entertaining their many Canfield Bay neighbors, harmonizing around campfires, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, cutting wood, and creating wonderful memories which remained throughout her life. After Ken's passing in 1988, she remained active, taking on daily 6 mile long lake walks, biking, ice skating, and gardening. Lois was quite an accomplished seamstress, making much of her own clothing as well as many special occasion dresses for her two granddaughters. She spent winters with her family in San Diego but would always return to her many friends and classmates in Duluth. She lived a very long and healthy life until eventually back, leg, and foot issues forced her to slow down. She continued to stay in close contact with her friends and family to the end. Lois will be greatly missed by all.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Olsen; parents; sister, Shirley Weiland; brother-in-law, Norbert Sloan; and nephew/godson Marty Sloan.
Lois is survived by her children, Brad (Judy) Bergman and Julie Bergman both of San Diego; granddaughters, Nicole and Bridgette; sister, Frances Sloan; and niece, Tracy Suomala (Sloan) of Duluth.
The family would like to thank all the doctors, NP's, nurses, and aides at the Benedictine Health Center and St Luke's Hospice Duluth for their excellent and loving care.
Private family service to be held at a later date.
