Lawrence C. 'Larry' Besser of Hermantown, MN, died Friday, February 19, 2016 at Essentia Health-St.Mary's Hospital. He was 85. He was born on June 6, 1930 in Duluth, MN. He graduated from Hermantown High School in 1948. On August 20, 1955 he married Lois McClelland, and together they had 4 children: Cindy, Scott, Kevin and Todd. Lawrence worked for St Louis County for 35 years, starting as a Clerk 2 and working his way up to Chief Auditor, the position from which he retired in 1985. He served for two years in the 598th Anti-Aircraft Battalion of the MN Army National Guard. He was also a founding member of Chapter 272 of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), serving in all of its leadership positions. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church for over 41 years. Lawrence had a strong faith and love of his family, as well as a passion for singing and flying. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents Bert and Dora Besser, his beloved wife Lois, his son Todd and his grandson Blake. He will be deeply missed by his brother Don (Joyce), his daughter Cindy (Larry) Anderson, sons Scott (Cherie) and Kevin (Amy), daughter-in-law Gwen, 12 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, beloved extended family and dear friends. Visitation Wed., Feb. 24 from 6-8pm at Sunrise Funeral Home 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, Hermantown. A celebration of life service will be held Thur., Feb. 25 at 11am with visitation one hour prior at Salem Lutheran Church; 4715 Hermantown Rd, Hermantown. Internment at Sunrise Cemetery.
