Obituary

Larry Lee Ecklund, 74, of Duluth, MN was blissfully reunited with his late wife, the love of his life, on Wednesday, November 23, 2022. Larry grew up in the Twig and Munger areas of Northern Minnesota and helped work the family farm. He attended Proctor High School, worked for Duluth Ready Mix and later joined the United States Navy, serving in the Vietnam War. After returning to Minnesota and continuing to work for Duluth Ready Mix, Larry met Bev Young who would become his everything. The two were married and built a house of their own in Duluth where they raised their two daughters. Larry enjoyed small engine repair, playing ball for The Bad News Bears (later renamed Old Bats Old Balls), cruising in his '56 Chevy Belair and winning first place in most of the classic car shows he and Bev entered. He was a hardworking man who did things his way and loved his family.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Bev Ecklund; parents, Harold and Shirley Ecklund; sister, Lois Johnson; and brother, Laurel Ecklund.

He will always be remembered by his two daughters who will love him forever, Allie (Steve) Collins and Angie (Luke) Taran; grandchildren, Danika, Jack, Ramsey, Jace and Reid; sisters, Sandy Watkins and Linda (Gene) Eilefson; brothers, Ronnie Ecklund and Timmy (Colleen) Ecklund; along with cousins, nieces, nephews, and lots of friends, far and wide.

We would like to extend a special thank you to our Dad's caregivers, our angels, Ashley Fredrickson and Larissa Peaslee. You helped us out in our deepest time of need at the beginning of this year and we can never thank you enough for the genuine kindness and compassion you shared with our Dad. We would also like to thank the first responders and EMT staff that assisted us during this time. We would also like to offer our warm appreciation to St. Luke's Intensive Care Unit Nurses Tiffany and James and St. Luke's Hospice Unit Nurses Tim and Torie. This was a quick, yet difficult journey and each of you spending time with us in your own special way made this walk easier. And finally, to all the friends and family who stopped to visit with Larry over this last year, we can never thank you enough for the smile you put on his face.
