Obituary

Kenneth N. Mallow, of Hermantown, passed away on March 4, 2016 at his home with family surrounding him.  His ten year battle of mesothelioma came to an end.    He was born on a farm outside Fargo, ND, on November 24, 1927.  As a small child, his family moved to Staples and Wadena area where he attended schools.  At seventeen he moved to Duluth to work at the Steel Plant.  In 1962 he managed a liquor store and it became his vocation.  He met Karen in 1968 and married her the same year.  They bought their first liquor store in Duluth, Big Bottle Shop and later owned Hermantown Liquor.  Ken was very successful in buying and selling real estate. The cabin at Leisure Lake gave pleasure to all of the family.  Ken's other hobbies were playing Horse Shoes, bowling and golf which was his real joy.  He loved sports, Vikings, Twins and fantasy football at the All American Club where he belonged for many years. Ken and Karen loved to travel.  They enjoyed cruising, visiting his sister in Florida, and cousins in Utah.  His favorite was Las Vegas and Laughlin where he enjoyed playing and golfing.  He was a member of the Pine Hill Lutheran Church. Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents, Harry Mallow and Clara Solberg; step-daughter, Cynthia Werbelow; and in-laws, Gilbert and Esther Gulbranson. Kenneth is survived by his beloved wife, Karen; children, Randy (Sue), Judy (Steve) Reinkall, Rick (Patti), Kristin (Rock) LaBounty; grandchildren, Anne, Jason, Josh, Brittany, Tiffany, Katie, Abby, Nick, Eric, Shaun, Julia, Kristopher, Matt, Tim; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Irene Durrett; nephew, Gary Bisett; and niece, Sheila Bisett.
