Kenneth Edward Carlson, 84, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at Viewcrest Health Center in Duluth, MN. He was born on December 13, 1934 to Waldemar and Bertha Carlson. They lived in Dairyland, WI until moving to Duluth in 1942. Ken graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1953. After graduation he joined the Naval Reserve (Seabee's) at the end of the Korean Conflict. After his service Ken returned to Duluth and joined Carpenter's Local 361 where he has been a proud member for 66 years. During his career he worked for Duluth and Twin Cities contractors as a superintendent or foreman. Ken met the love of his life, Christine, in 1960. They were married on June 2, 1961 in Duluth. They raised three children together. Ken enjoyed fishing, hunting, skiing, snowmobiling and archery. He was a Minnesota State Archery Champion in the late 1950's. Ken was also a UMD Hockey fan. Upon retiring in 1996, Ken and Chris moved to Iron River, WI, living there until moving back to Hermantown, MN, in 2010. They enjoyed lake life, traveling in their motor home and attending many grandchildren's music concerts and sporting events. Ken was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Mason, WI and Salem Lutheran Church in Hermantown, MN. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Shannon Lynn Foster; and brother-in-law, Marvin Paarni. Ken is survived by his wife of 58 years, Christine; children, Craig (Deb) Carlson, Lynn (Bob) Foster and Amy (Scott Frankovich) Carlson; grandchildren, Kirstine Foster (Robin), Boston Foster (Heather), Bishop Foster (Alexis), Jessica (Lane) Lundstrom and Kyle Carlson (Alyssa); step-grandsons, Bradley Frankovich (Emily) and Duncan Frankovich (Malory); great-granddaughter, Lakyn Lundstrom; sisters, Ardith Paarni and Darlene (Ed) Butchart; sisters-in-law, Helen (Dick) Stronach and Lois (Ron) McCullough; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to St. Luke's Hospital, Viewcrest, and St. Luke's Hospice. VISITATION: 10 am on Friday, September 20th at Salem Lutheran Church, 4715 Hermantown Rd, with a Celebration of Life service following at 11 am.
