He served in the United States Marine Corps (Semper Fi) from 1954-1957.
His life was enriched when he married the love of his life, Bonny, on July 11, 1959, and started his life as a husband and father of five daughters.

He was a member of the Teamsters Local 346.
Boomer was an avid hunter and fisherman, with annual fishing trips made to Flin Flon, Canada and many hunting trips to South Dakota, Wyoming, and Nebraska. Friendships made during these trips led him to Ashton, NE helping his friend, Duke, plant and harvest corn and soybeans until 2014.
In 2017, Ken and Bonny sold their family home of 50 years located in Gary New Duluth and relocated to Esko, MN. They were members of Redeemer Lutheran Church since 1966.
