Obituary

Judith Ann (Cirhan) Stelter, 80, of Hermantown, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on May 10, 2026.

Judy was born in St. Paul to George and Lorraine Cirhan on August 30, 1945. She grew up in St. Paul, graduating from Hill-Murray High School in 1963. After continuing her education at Globe Business School, she began working for the State of Minnesota in the Centennial Office Building. That is where she first saw Ron, or more accurately, his sandwich made with homemade bread. That legendary lunch sparked a romance which led to marriage in 1967.

After living in Apple Valley for 5 years, they traded the suburbs for the Iron Range, moving up to Mountain Iron. Judy thrived as a stay-at-home mom. She was known as the “Cool Mom,” famous for her baking, frequently volunteering at Sacred Heart Church, and treated Sue and Dave’s friends as if they were her own children. Until recently, many of those friends still received a birthday card with a handwritten note from Judy every year.

When the kids grew up and a house without stairs sounded better, Ron and Judy built a home in Britt. There, Judy loved watching the deer and birds, reading in her three-season porch, crafting, and putting puzzles together. They moved to Hermantown in 2024. Judy’s kindness and caring for others did not go unnoticed. She was beloved by everyone who crossed paths with her.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Jean (Mer) Griffin; and brother, James (Jim) Cirhan.

Judy is survived by her devoted husband, Ron; daughter, Sue Anderson; son, David (Stacey) Stelter; her cherished grandchildren, Brad (Mariam McAdams) Anderson, Katerina (Sean Conway) Anderson, Ian (Maddy) Stelter, and Eric Stelter; as well as many special nieces and nephews.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Essentia Health Hospice and the wonderful caregivers who took such tender care of her this year.

Visitation to be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 8th at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, Hermantown, with Memorial Service to follow at Noon. Please join the family afterward for a reception to share stories, and laughter.
