The family of John “Ooie” Robert Scanlon, is deeply saddened to announce his passing on May 21, 2026 in his home with family by his side and his cat Scotch laying at his feet.

If you knew John you knew his passion for cars, drag races, motorcycles, and his love of the outdoors, which included hunting and fishing.

John was preceded in death by his loving wife of more than 50 years, Janet; parents, William and Jeanette; and brothers, Bill and Tom.

He will be remembered and greatly missed by his daughter, Jodi (Jim) Kehtel; grandchildren whom called him “Bumpa”, Rayanna (Cody) Gaskell, Jonny (Sienna) Kehtel, and Ember Kehtel; greatgrandchildren, Dawson, Bexley, and Daylon; sister, Marsha; and several nieces and nephews, one of which was his closest fishing buddy, Scott.

Because John lived his life to the fullest, we are having a gathering to celebrate his legacy rather than mourning his passing. We invite all who knew and loved “Ooie” to join us for a Celebration of Life where we will share stories and laughs on Friday June 5th from 11:00–2:00 at the Proctor Moose Lodge, 415 3rd Ave. The family will share a few words at Noon and lunch will be provided.

In honor of Ooie, guests are encouraged to drive their classic cars and motorcycles, weather permitting, to the Moose as a tribute. Parking spaces will be provided for the cars.
