Obituary

John "Jack" Joseph McRae, 88, of Duluth, MN, passed away at Essentia Health St. Mary's on January 26, 2023.

Jack was born in Duluth, MN to John Archibald McRae and Mary Catherine McDonald on January 24, 1935. He attended Cathedral HS graduating in 1953. He worked for Grumdahl Windows and Awnings then became a Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 34 years having earned the prestigious "Carrier of the Year Award". Every year he and his children volunteered with fellow letter carriers on the Jerry Lewis Telethon for Muscular Dystrophy. In his "spare time" he drove a cab for Allied Taxi every Saturday night.

Jack was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and babysitter for his family. He was a devout Catholic. He loved going to the Moose Lodge in Proctor for burgers, pizzas, cribbage, dancing with his wife, and camaraderie. There wasn't a person he met who didn't love spending time with Jack. Though a quiet man, he was known for his pranks, jokes and rubber band fights. He always had a smile and encouragement for everyone.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Stella (Art), Margaret, James (Carmen) and Ronnie; in-laws, Margaret (Hume), William (Betty), Mona (Les), and Donna; and dear nieces and nephews.

Jack is survived by his beloved wife of over 65 years, Therese; children, William (Nancy), Robert (Julee), Katherine (Nathan) and Patrick (Jonelle); grandchildren, Katie (John), Megan (Chad), Melinda (Jon), Ian (Ashley), Alan, Chris (Priscilla), Brie (Matt), Jessica (Derek), Eric (Christina), Patrick Jr., Caylee (Justen), Adam (Emily), Amber, Tara, and Ellie; great-grandchildren, Calvin (Sam), David, Jaxen, Selena, Rochelle, Catalina, Isabella, Mikaila, Quinn, Wyatt, Lilly, Peyton, Rubie and Isaiah; great-great-grandchildren, William and Bailey; sister-in-law, Beverly; brother-in-law, Joe; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to Essentia St Mary's ER and CVICU staff who were exceptional in the care of Jack and compassion shown to family during his last hours with us.
