Obituary

Jody Allen Miller, 69, of Duluth, Minnesota, passed away on July 10, 2025, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on January 13, 1956, in Duluth, Minnesota, to Ruth Madson and William Miller.

Jody was an extraordinary man, characterized by his loving nature and delightful sense of humor. He had a profound passion for music, an affinity for scary movies, reading books, and a special enjoyment in feeding the birds and squirrels that visited him every day. His compassion for all living beings, including insects, was unwavering; he cared for and respected every aspect of life. He possessed a deep affection for spiders, and those who cared for him understood the significance of "spider13" and the number 13, both of which held great meaning for him.

An avid collector, Jody amassed a variety of items, including rings and swords, which he took great pleasure in sharing with others.

His love for his children was immense, and he cherished his grandchildren even more. Jody was always available to offer advice, and he made it a point to ensure that no conversation ended without the phrase "I love you." He accepted everyone as they were, allowing individuals to be their authentic selves in his presence. He fostered an environment that made you feel at home, consistently conveying a sense of love and acceptance.

Jody was the jack-of-all-trades, master of none! He fancied himself a fix-it wizard, but oh boy, did we set him straight! From backward door handles to floors that looked like abstract art, he kept us entertained. His real gig? Wrangling his three little ones - who he adored and drove batty in equal measure!

Jody was preceded in death by his father, William Edward Thomas Miller; as well as his sisters, Judy Gouch and Cindie Britton; and his brother, William Miller.

Jody is survived by his mother, Ruth Madson; partner, Julie Walkowiak; children, Carrie (Steve) Witherly, Jodi (Brian) Miller, Mandy "Miller" (Aric) Toboleski, Misty (Lon) Powers, Joseph Miller, Samantha (Aaron) Van, Serena Miller, Carlee Miller, and Ryan (Raeanne) Bergren; a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brothers, David Madson, Robbie Miller, Todd Miller, and Rodney Miller; sisters, Michelle Madson and Rebecca Eldridge. He is also fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Essentia Hospice, particularly to Lindsay, Matt, and Alicia, and to Sunrise Funeral Home staff.
