Janet Mae Omundson (Kangas), 80, of Duluth, MN, passed on April 24,2025.

Janet was born in Bruce Crossing, MI. on May 6, 1944, to Evelyn Virginia and Sulo Emil Kangas, her beloved parents. Janet attended Esko High School and graduated in 1962. She would later attend the University of Minnesota, earning a Bachelor Degree in Applied Science in 1989. Janet worked for ADRC, Essentia Health.

In 2002 Janet alongside Pam Elj received a Congressional Record Tribute from Senator Mark Dayton, she was very proud to have been a part of helping steel workers and their families receive benefits they deserved.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents; and her beloved spouse, Bill.

Janet is survived by her two sons, Thomas (Yolanda) of Nacogdoches, TX, and Daniel (Bonnie) of Thorp, WI; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Sulo E. Jr. (Marge) of Duluth, MN; and sister, Susan "Sooz" Kangas of Superior, WI.

Per Janet's wishes, she was privately interred at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery next to her beloved husband, Bill.

The family would like to thank Sunrise Funeral Home and so many family and friends for their love and support during this difficult time. A special thank you to her sister, Sooz, whose love and support is immeasurable and a great comfort to her family.
