Janet “Jann” Irma Wussow, 81, of Duluth, Minnesota passed away on January 31, 2026 at the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth. 

Jann was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Michael and Marie Rausch on November 18, 1944. She grew up in St. Martin and went to high school in Paynesville, Minnesota, graduating in 1962. She studied both bookkeeping and hairdressing, but she spent nearly all of her working life side-by-side with her husband, Roger, running their carpet store in Alexandria, Minnesota.

Roger and Jann met in the spring of ‘64 on a blind date. Two years later they spent their honeymoon deer hunting. They had 59 years of adventures together from competing in a 500-mile snowmobile race in 1965 to visiting the Panama Canal with their children in 2020. They traveled the world and Jann insisted on bringing the cat on camping trips. She almost always had a book in her hand and she often caught more fish while reading than everyone else who was actually trying. She loved a lot of things (babies, music, her cat, chocolate covered cherries) and it wasn’t hard to bring a smile to her face. But her greatest joy in life was being with her two children, Jason and Jennifer. She never skipped the bedtime story even after a long day at work; she gardened, canned, baked delicious pies, sewed pajamas and costumes, and supported her childrens’ every dream.

Jann was preceded in death by her parents and Roger’s parents, Edwin and Selma Wussow; her brother-in-law, Dave Rau; nephew Jim Schmit; and brother-in-law Dean Wussow. She is survived by her husband, Roger; children, Jason (Tina) Wussow and Jennifer (Christopher) Eddy; sister, Mary (Fran) Schmit; brother, John (Kathy) Rausch; sister-in-law, Sandy Rau; brother-in-law, Dale (Debbie) Wussow; sister-in-law, Mary Berghuis, and many nephews and nieces.

The family wishes to extend gratitude to the hospice care team at Essentia and the caregivers at the Solvay House, as well as their dear friends and neighbors around Barrs Lake. A celebration of life will take place at Wussow’s Concert Cafe in Duluth on Saturday, February 21st at 4:00 pm. There will be an additional service at Ebenezer Church in Leaf Valley, Minnesota on March 21st; 10:00am visitation, 11:00am service. Celebration of Life at the Elks Club will follow at 4:00pm.
