Jacob Stephen Carlson, 30 of Hermantown died and passed into Our Lord's loving embrace on February 12, 2015. He is now free from all pain and suffering. He fought cancer like a warrior for 2 ½ years. Jake was born to Steven & Theresa (Terry) Carlson on January 8th, 1985. He graduated from Hermantown High School in 2003. Jake played youth soccer & hockey in Hermantown from the age of 5. He also played on Team Minnesota, Minnesota Selects and the Northern Wings hockey teams as a youth. He was captain of his soccer & hockey teams in his senior year. He went on to play Junior A Hockey in the NAHL in Helena, Montana and Beaver River, Ontario, Canada. He played a year of college hockey at UMass-Boston then played at Northland College where he graduated in May, 2012 with a degree in Environmental Science. Jake loved spending time with his family and had many hopes & dreams for them right up to the end. He is preceeded in death by his grandpas Jim Riggio, Delbert Carlson and Bill Medlin. He is survived by his parents, his fiance' Laura Bordson, their children Boston & Scarlett, his sister Andrea Carlson (Jay), his grandmas Margie Riggio and Susan Medlin, his nieces Ashleigh, Jaylyn & Sophia and his nephew Phoenix. Also his loving aunts, uncles, cousins and best friends. Jake loved life and will always be remembered for his smile. His message to everyone is "Do not take your life for granted." We would like to thank Dr. Jonathan Sande and his wonderful staff for all they did for Jake. They gave him hope. Instead of flowers please make memorials to the Boston & Scarlett Carlson Fund. A celebration of his life will be held at Sunrise Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 17th. The visitation will be held at 10:00 am and the service to follow at 11:00 am.
