Jaclyn “Jackie” Marie (Hariu) Sathers, 84, of Duluth, MN, passed away on October 3, 2026, at BeeHive Homes Assisted Living and Memory Care of Duluth.
Jackie was born in Ironwood, MI, to John and Lempie (Maenpaa) Hariu on December 9, 1941. She graduated from Ironwood High School in 1959 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota Duluth.
Jackie began her career as a home economics teacher in Two Harbors and Proctor before her path eventually led her to working alongside Jim as he developed and built homes. In 1980, she realized her love of helping people was well suited to a career in real estate. After working for Lil Stocke Realty, Jackie struck out on her own and founded JS Realty with her daughter Jamie in 1989.
Jackie leaves behind a legacy that goes far beyond selling real estate. Through the relationships she built and the lives she touched, Jackie and JS Realty became known for something even more meaningful—a reputation built on trust, compassion, and genuinely caring for others.
Throughout her career, Jackie served on numerous real estate boards and committees at both the local and state levels, including serving as President of the local real estate board. In 2023, she was honored with the Legacy Award. Jackie was also a strong supporter and advocate for the disability community, serving on the boards of several organizations, including Choice Unlimited.
There were few things in life Jackie enjoyed more than a good party, especially when there were great dance tunes playing and plenty of room to groove. Through the years, with Jim always by her side, Jackie loved cheering on her grandkids at their sporting events—always extra bundled up in one of her long winter coats, complete with a matching hat and gloves. Jackie was also a gifted watercolor artist and an active member of the Duluth Art Institute and Minnesota Artists Association for many years. Her constant support, caring nature, and love of life will be deeply missed.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Sathers; her parents, John and Lempie Hariu; her sister, Marla Nachtsheim and brother-in-law, John Nachtsheim; brothers-in-law Lauren (Butch) & Gary Sathers, and sister-in-law Chris Sathers.
Jackie is survived by her children, Jamie (Patrick Day) Sathers-Day, Bard (Julie) Sathers, and Darcy Sathers; grandchildren, Bard Day (Makyia Maloney), Keijo (Kayla) Day, Braxton (Maura) Sathers, and Braelyn Sathers; brother-in-law, Robert Sathers; sister-in-law, Char Sathers; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Grace Lutheran Church, 5454 Miller Trunk Hwy, Hermantown, MN 55811, with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served at the church following the service.
Jackie loved planning a good party just as much as she loved attending one, and she certainly wouldn’t want to see a room full of people dressed in black. In true Jackie fashion, we ask that you come dressed in colorful attire as we gather to celebrate a life so well lived.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Jackie’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Duluth Art Institute, or the REALTOR®s as Neighbors Foundation. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Erin Culhane, and the staffs at Village Caregiving, St. Croix Hospice, and BeeHive Homes Assisted Living and Memory Care of Duluth.
