Obituary

Gretchen A. Bastien, 70, of Forest Lake, Minnesota, passed away surrounded by the love of those who knew her best. She grew up in Cloquet, MN where the roots of her lifelong appreciation for close community, friendship, and family were first formed. She was a graduate of Cloquet High School and later received her AAS at the MN School of Business and worked in the paralegal field for many years among other professions.

She found deep joy in the company of friends, family, and close neighbors, and had a special place in her heart for children. Gretchen volunteered in children’s ministry at Eaglebrook Church in Lino Lakes, where her playful spirit, kindness, and ability to connect made a lasting impact on many young lives.

A kid at heart, Gretchen embraced life with humor and humility. She was often the first to laugh at herself - whether poking fun at her own clumsiness or sharing a moment of silliness that brought smiles to everyone around her. Her lighthearted nature made people feel at ease and reminded those around her not to take life too seriously.

Gretchen was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Jane Salo; and brother-in-law, Dennis Johnson.

Gretchen is survived by her siblings, Janine Johnson, Faith Salo, and Charles Salo; and nieces and nephews.

Gretchen will be remembered for her generous heart, her love for community, and the joy she brought into everyday moments. Her presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A private service will be held at a later date for close family and friends
