Obituary

Gloria Jean "Fudgie" Tomlin, age 81, passed away on October 27, 2024, with her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Duluth on November 22, 1942, to Helmer and Ebba Floodstrom.

Gloria attended Hermantown School, graduating in 1960. She met the love of her Life, Robert "Bob" Tomlin, through a set-up by her friend, Lorraine, cruising on Superior Street. They were married on March 4, 1961, celebrating their 40th Wedding Anniversary before Bob's passing.

Gloria was proud to be a homemaker while raising their four children. She then started her career at Service Printers as a bindery specialist. She retired after twenty-five years. She was a long-time member of Salem Lutheran Church. Gloria enjoyed her work, family time, and after-hours outings. Gloria was best known for her exceptional baking skills, creating the most delicious customized cakes, cookies and bars. Everyone in her orbit was thankful to receive colorful hats, mittens, scarves, and slippers, knitted and crocheted by hand. Gloria most appreciated the third Monday of each month, when she met with friends from her graduating class, at the neighborhood Fosters.

Gloria was counting on the Minnesota Vikings to win the Super Bowl Championship this season. That would ensure Papa Bob's purple and gold barbeque grill would finally be used for the first time! She looked forward to watching and cheering them on, each and every game.

Gloria cherished being a wife and mother. Family was always center stage in their home.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Tomlin; and her sister, Jane McDonald.

Gloria is survived and will be deeply missed by her sons, Dave (Shellie) Tomlin and Kevin (Rhonda) Tomlin; daughters, Annette (Scott) Fedler and Donna (Mark) Thorsten; grandchildren, Julie, Jodi, Joseph, Jon, Jessica, Skylar, Paige, Robbie and Zach; along with seventeen great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Mueller, Shirley Whitney, and Barb Adamski; bonus daughter, Doreen (Robbie) Peterson; irreplaceable friend since grade school, Lorraine Erkkila; plus numerous nieces and nephews.

Gloria always said she was so blessed to have all her children and their families living close by in town. Life just won't be the same without her unique spark in our lives, from her love and laughter to jello shots and creative cuisine. Priceless Memories that will never fade.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 1, 2024, beginning at Noon until the 1:00 pm Memorial Service at Salem Lutheran Church, 4715 Hermantown Rd., Hermantown, MN, with reception to follow.
