Gerald "Jerry" Privette - loving husband, father, railroad engineer, US Marine - died September 3, 2021 in Duluth Minnesota, surrounded by his wife and three children. He was 90 years old.
Jerry was born in Duluth, MN on January 31, 1931 the oldest of four children to Vivin and Celina Privette.
Jerry worked as an engineer for the DWP Railroad for 43 years. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He was a life member of the American Legion and former Post Commander of West Duluth American Legion #71. Jerry enjoyed bowling, cribbage, spending time at his cabin with his family on Comstock Lake, and volunteering at American Legion functions.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Vivin and Celina, and his brother, Tim.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 68 years, Una; children, Joel (Sue) Privette of Ponsford MN, Cory Privette (Cindy Matheson) of Proctor MN, and Lisa (Mark) Manton of Cincinnati OH; grandchildren, Joe Balcer MN, Jeremy (Beth) Privette MN, Andrew Privette MN, Marinda (Adam McRunnel) Balcer MN, Celina (Zach) Leopold OH, Christopher Privette MN, Nathan (Sary Switajewski) Privette MN, and Alix (Nic) Grassl OH; great-grandchildren, Weston, Bauer, Felicity and Zuko Leopold, Claire Bakke and Logan Ridlon, Miles Privette, Benjamin Grassl and two more on the way; brother, Tom; and sister, Marilyn.
Visitation will be held at 11 am on Friday, September 10, 2021 at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, with Memorial service with military honors to follow at Noon. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry's name can be made to the West Duluth American Legion #71 New Digital Sign Fund.
