Obituary

George R. Witte, 84, of Duluth, died Sunday December 30, 2012, after a brief illness.  He was born in Duluth on December 31, 1927 to Max and Tillie (Martin) Witte.  He graduated from Hermantown High School in 1945 and enlisted in the Army serving in the Philippines.  After the service he attended the Salter Vocational School to study Electronics.  George worked in radio and TV repair, and sales with Stark Electronics in Duluth and Minneapolis for 35 years.  He married Margaret Acker in November 1950 and remained married for 62 years, and together they raised three children.  George enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time at the cabin in Isabella, MN for many years.  He was a dog training instructor for Twin Ports Dog Training Club, a Member of the Duluth Kennel Club, and a former member of the Duluth Retriever Club.  He was also a MN Volunteer Firearms Instructor for over 40 years, an AKC Obedience Judge for 35 years, as well as a Canosia Volunteer Fire Department member for 21 years. George was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Maxine (Leonard) Acker. George is survived by his wife Margaret, children Robert (Lorry) of Ham Lake, MN; Jean (Kurt) Anderson of The Villages, FL; and John (Judy) of Duluth; as well as grandchildren Sarah, Max, Stephanie, Michael, Julia, and Karl. Visitation will be held on Monday January 7, 2013, from Noon until the 1:00PM Funeral Service in Sunrise Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Park.  Military Honors will be accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard.  Arrangements by Sunrise Funeral Home.
