IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George "Gar"
Anton Rasmusson
September 8, 1947 – September 15, 2025
George Anton Rasmusson - known to most simply as George, and to his kids as "GAR" - passed away on September 15, 2025.
Born in Williston, North Dakota, in 1947 and raised in Devils Lake, George developed early passions for aviation and storytelling - two threads that would weave through his entire life.
He built his career in aviation with North Central, Republic, Northwest, and Great Lakes Airlines. His work and family life took him to many places over the years, including Chicago, Lakeville, and Spencer, Iowa, before eventually settling in Breezy Point. After retirement, George found a second home at Breezy Point Resort, where he served as resort historian, head of guest relations, author of the Breezy Pointer, and Captain of the Breezy Belle. Wherever he was, George was quick with a one-liner, a sharp comeback, or a tale that might or might not have been true - but he told it so well, you were happy to believe it either way.
George is survived by his children, Rhonda (Chip) Lemon, Anne (Still TBD), and Mike (Erinn); sister, Pauline Poletes; seven grandchildren, Christian, Nicholas, Jonathon, Julia, Alison, Nolan, and Ivy; special cousin, Sonja Larsen; and loving life-partner, Kim.
Per his wishes, there will be no formal services. Instead, in true GAR fashion, friends and family are invited to share stories and raise a glass in his honor at Breezy Point Resort, October 18th from 4 - 7 PM. If you have photos to share please email to mike.rasmusson@yahoo.com
