Gary Wayne Truman, 73 of Duluth passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2019 of natural causes at home. He was born August 4, 1945 to Rufus and Eunice (Cowin) Truman in Brainerd, MN. Gary grew up on a farm in Onamia, MN and graduated from UMD with a BS in Geology. He worked for Humble Oil Co., Hanna Mining, and in construction for several years. In 1981 he began a career with the Duluth Water and Gas Department until his retirement in 2008. He was a proud US Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and helping his wife in the garden. Gary was also a proud Vikings fan. Gary was preceded in death by brothers Wally and Keith; and a sister, Joyce. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 39 years, Gayle (Barker) Truman of Duluth; daughter, Miya (Bobby) Kohmetscher of Kettle River; two step-sons, Daniel and Doug (Lisa) Nixon of the Twin Cities; sister, Juel Mercer of Phoenix, and three grandsons. Memorials may be left to the Disabled American Veterans or Second Harvest Food Bank. Visitation: 1:00 until the 2:00 p.m. memorial service Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Highway, Hermantown. Inurnment will be in Sunrise Cemetery.
