IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elsie "Janice"
(Jackson) Huffman
June 15, 1935 – August 12, 2025
Elsie "Janice" (Jackson) Lindholm Haugen Huffman, 90, of Duluth, MN passed away peacefully on August 12th, 2025 at Viewcrest Healthcare in Duluth.
Jan was born in Duluth to Carl and Elsie Jackson on June 15th, 1935. She grew up in the Chester Park neighborhood. In 1952, she married Ron Lindholm. The couple raised their 5 children in Duluth's Lakeside neighborhood. The family made many memories on adventures in the Northwoods camping and canoeing together. Ron passed away unexpectedly in January of 1981.
In 1984, Jan married Nels Haugen. They made their home on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Together, they enjoyed many years of canoeing, camping, hiking, cross-country skiing, and traveling. They were enthusiastic about the outdoors, and volunteered their time to help with early trail building of the Superior Hiking Trail. Nels passed away in October of 1997. In 2002, Jan married Lyle Huffman and moved to Rotonda West, Florida. Jan returned to Duluth in 2020 due to declining health and to be closer to family and friends.
Jan loved to create things with her hands. She was a talented Rosemaler and also enjoyed watercolor painting. Sewing, whether it be creating garments or beautiful quilts, was another one of Jan's favorite pastimes. She was awarded many ribbons for her talents. Her love and appreciation of nature was always apparent in her work.
Jan was preceded in death by her husbands, Ron (1981) and Nels (1997); son, James (2023); granddaughter, Carrie (1978); sister, Shirley (1934); brother, Earl (2003); and her beloved dogs, Peppi, Ande, and Harry.
Jan is survived by many loving friends and family, including her husband, Lyle; daughter, Kathleen (David) Dexter; sons, Robert (Karen) Lindholm, Gary (Kim) Lindholm, and Jon (Daryl) Lindholm; daughter-in-law, Lee Lindholm; grandchildren, Jamie, Jeremy, Jessica, Kristina, Steven, Jennifer, Brian, Nikki, Tyler, Dane and Dylan; great-grandchildren, Caden, Riley, Maia, Alexis, and Bali; sisters, Carol (Harold) Metzger and Mary (Gerry) Angell, and Haugen; stepchildren, Richard, Nancy, Edith, Rosemary, Sr. Kristine, Mary Ann, Dorothy and Gloria; Huffman stepchildren, Connie, Kent, and Penney and their families; and her dear friend of 60 years, Pat Sjoberg.
A private interment will be held at Sunrise Memorial Park in September.
