Elsie Violet Holm, 96, of Duluth, Minnesota went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, April 2, 2018, from St. Luke's Hospital. Elsie was born in Beaver Township (Ray), Minnesota to Emil and Siiri Arvila October 14, 1921.
Elsie was an only child. Her mom and dad came over from Finland. She learned English in school. Her family were dairy farmers. They settled in the country between 2 rock hills and a river running through. She loved the farm life where people took time for each other and helped each other.
Elsie graduated from International Falls High and Virginia Junior College. Elsie went to Washington DC and worked in the Pentagon. She later returned to Minnesota and the Duluth area and worked in the office of Duluth Steam Corporation. There she met her husband Russell. They were married for 62 years.
Elsie was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Piedmont Heights.
Elsie was a devoted wife and mother. She gave her life to serving her family well. She served as a brownie scout leader and a PTA president trying to make things better for kids. She was very curious. She thought a lot and had lots of questions. She had a flair for writing. She was a grateful, thankful person who did not complain. She had an adventurous spirit. She loved to dance, read and cook and wear lots of hats!
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Russell.
Elsie is survived by her daughters, Carol and Janet (Woody); her grandchildren, Jason (Kelly), Sheila (Jon), Daniel (Kristin), and Michael; great-grandchildren, Avery, Connor and Gianna.
Elsie was blessed with a long life, an adventurous heart and a family that loved her dearly. She was ready to go to heaven (and see Russell again too) and God in his mercy took her home. We will miss her but we know we will see her again.
Private family service to be held at Sunrise Funeral Home.
