Elizabeth Ann Taylor, 82, of Duluth, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at Solvay Hospice House after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Duluth on January 16, 1944, to Raymond Keating and Helen (Parchem) Keating. Liz graduated from St. Jean’s Catholic School in 1961 and later studied art history at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
On April 1, 1967, she married Robert Everette Taylor.
Before raising her family, Liz worked for the City of Duluth, both in the Clerk’s Office and the Water & Gas Department. Deeply invested in her community and her children’s education, Liz was a dedicated long-term volunteer in their schools. She generously shared her time and passion for literature, helping to create and facilitate the Junior Great Books program to inspire a love of reading.
Liz had a heart as open as her home, always ready to welcome any guests, especially her children’s friends, with open arms and treat everyone as her own. An avid reader, accomplished quilter, and enthusiastic baker, she filled her house with sweet treats and comforting laughter.
Above all, Liz was a devoted, tireless advocate for her daughter, Katie, meeting her needs with unwavering love and dedication.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Katherine and Mary, her brother, Raymond, and her husband of 57 years, Robert.
Liz is survived by her children, Katie, Carrie (Corey) Kemp, Krista (Tom) Despins, Karla (Dan) Wilson, Craig (Suzanne) Taylor; grandchildren Will, Leo, Nathan, Sydney, Ashley, Amanda, Rai, Keagan, Brenden, Liam, Trevor; and eight great-grandchildren. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Dr. Tim Kleinschmidt, the dedicated nursing and palliative care staff at Aspirus 2 West, and the incredible team at Solvay Hospice House for their unwavering support. Their compassionate care for Liz and her family is the work of the heart.
A visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 7th, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 151 W. Linden St., Duluth, with Mass to follow at noon. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Solvay Hospice House or the Duluth Library Foundation. Please share online condolences and memories at the Sunrise Funeral Home and Cemetery website.
