Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Malley, age 81, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on September 13, 2026.
Betty was born on February 26, 1945, to the late James Harrell Moline and Theresa Loretta (Cobb) Moline. She was a proud graduate of Duluth Cathedral High School.
Betty had a heart built for family and community. She was always willing to jump in and help manage any “fiasco,” and she found endless joy in life’s gatherings. Whether she was decorating, planning, overfeeding everyone in sight, or tackling the cleanup afterward, Betty was always happy to throw herself into any excuse for a celebration. Bringing people together was simply part of who she was, and the love she poured into her family and community will be deeply missed.
Betty is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Wayne Joseph Malley; her daughter, Theresa “Teri” Gustavsson; her son, Patrick (Stacey) Malley of Hermantown; her cherished grandchildren, Allison, Jacob, Daniel, Nathan, Eric, Rena, Megan, Nicolle, Emma, Jonah, Ethan, Michael, and Kylie; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Roger; her son-in-law, Roy Gustavsson; her brothers, James and John Moline; and her sister, Catherine Philpot.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the Essentia Health Hospice team for nearly three years of dedicated care, which allowed Mom to remain in the comfort of her own home. Special thanks are also extended to her devoted caregivers—her niece, Brenda; grandson, Eric; Angela, Ben, and Xena—for their kindness, compassion, and unwavering support.
Services will be held Monday, September 21, 2026, at Sunrise Memorial Park in Hermantown. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. A lunch will be served immediately following the service. Interment will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Canosia Township Cemetery.
Betty’s love for family, her willingness to lend a helping hand, and her gift for bringing people together will remain a cherished part of the lives of all who knew and loved her.
