(Moe) Collins
February 3, 1930 – March 2, 2025
Eleanor Maybelle Collins (Moe) of Duluth, Minnesota passed away on March 2, 2025 in Duluth, having just celebrated her 95th birthday.
Eleanor was born in Duluth to Julia and Simon Moe on February 3, 1930. She attended Central High School, graduated from UMD, and later received a Master's Degree in Education from the U. of M. After a brief job teaching in Esko, MN, she worked as a dietician at St. Luke's Hospital. She then joined the faculty of UMD, Department of Home Economics and Family Life Education, and later served as Department Chair, retiring in 1994.
Eleanor married her loving husband John, "Mr. C", on March 7, 1953. Until his passing in 2021, they loved to travel the world together and enjoyed activities such as camping and fishing closer to home. Eleanor was devoted to her family and especially enjoyed her collection ("Twos") of photos taken of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the age of two.
Eleanor was very active in a variety of programs at First Lutheran Church in Duluth, including serving as FLC Foundation secretary and in quilting and prayer shawl ministries. She participated in many roles in the Arrowhead Home Economics Association. She enjoyed all forms of fabric crafts and needlework, gifting special-occasion dresses, quilts and knitted items, and creating intricately cross-stitched Christmas stockings for grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Julia Moe; husband, John; sister, Florence Anderson (Moe); and brother, Maurice Moe.
Eleanor is survived by her children, Christine (Russell Kohnken), Paul (Marian), and David (Jill); six grandchildren, Grant (Courtney), Evan (engaged to Jennie Harrington), Rebecca Kohnken (Josh Heise), Philip Kohnken (Kelly), Nicole, and Mariah; six great-grandchildren, Ty and Holly Kohnken, Henry and Eleanor Heise, and Asher and Adalyn Collins; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 8th at First Lutheran Church, 1100 E Superior Street, Duluth, MN with Memorial Service at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery, 4798 Miller Trunk Highway, Hermantown, Minnesota. Memorial donations may be made to First Lutheran Church Foundation or to Second Harvest Northland.
