Obituary

Elden T. Johns January 16, 1925 - August 1, 2013 LAKE SUZY, FLA. - Elden T. Johns passed away Thursday, August 1, 2013, at his son's home surrounded by his family. He was born January16, 1925 in Sibley, Iowa to Earl Johns and Una (Madsen) Johns. In 1943 he joined the Navy serving during World War II in the Aleutian Islands aboard a destroyer for 22 months. In October 2012 he enjoyed taking the Honor Flight for Veteran's to Washington D.C. to see the World War II Memorial. He was married to Lois Breitenbach Dec. 7, 1945 in Menno, S.D. They moved to Superior in 1956 where Elden taught mathematics and bookkeeping at Central High School for 10 years and one year at Superior Senior High where he created the DECA program. He retired as Director of the Duluth Area Institute of Technology in 1987. They then moved to Lake Suzy, FL. While there he played league tennis, golf, took dance lessons, belonged to the Sarasota Dance Club and played in several bridge clubs. Along with biking, walking and watching football, Elden and Lois enjoyed their vacation cabin on Simms Lake in Gordon. He was preceded in death by wife, Lois, in 2011. Survivors include, his son Charles (Laura) Johns of Gordon, Wisc, daughters, Sandra (Arnie) Breitenbach of St George, Utah and Kim (Jim) Ball of Superior; grandchildren Wendy Bauer of Edina, Minn; Peter (Amy) Johns of Jordan, Minn; Jessica Linsten of Duluth; Robert (Connie) Morehouse and Steve Depta of Superior, Joe Depta of Arizona and six great-grandchildren.
