Edward C. Wortman died peacefully at home on Friday, August 28, 2015. Heaven is a more beautiful place today now that he is reunited with his beloved Marie. Ed was born to the late Edward and Mae Wortman on September 28, 1928, in Minneapolis, MN. Ed served his country in the Naval Reserve for 13 years. He married his soul mate Marie Sames on May 20, 1950. In 1964, as co-founder and owner of Quadna Mountain Resort, Ed moved his family to Hill City, MN, where they raised their six children. After relocating to Elk River, MN in 1989, Ed volunteered his time at numerous organizations such as, Meals on Wheels, St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Sherburne County Bailiff and Elk Run Village. Ed enjoyed spending time with family and friends, wood working, playing cards (cribbage), crosswords, reading, puzzles, and helping others whenever he could. He was a devoted, generous, kind, quick-witted and caring person who had an unconditional commitment to his faith.   Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mae Wortman; loving wife, Marie; brother, Dick; and sisters, LaVerne (Gael) Rhoades and Arlene King. Edward is survived by his children, Mick (Joan), Steve (Wendy), Wendy (Kent) Nyberg, K.C., John (Nina) and Mary; ten grandchildren, Angie (Phil), Craig (Caralyn), Therese (Craig), Erin (Matt), Chad (Leanne), Sonja (Hans), Megan (Greg), Kara, Emily and Laura; three great grandchildren, Tony, Justin, and Ben; sister, Shirley (Ken) Selle; sister-in-law, Rita Wortman; brother-in-law, Robert King; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 12:30 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Elk River. Visitation will start at 10:30-12:30 prior to the service.
