Obituary

Edward J. Molitor, 94, went home to be with the Lord May 3, 2020. A lifelong resident of Duluth, he was the youngest child of Melvin E. and Mary B. Molitor. On December 4, 1943, Ed was happily married to his childhood sweetheart, Ruth, who he loved dearly for 72+ years. He was married to the woman whom he considered to be the best gift God could have given him. After only six weeks of marriage Ed joined the U.S. Navy, where he served as a radioman in World War II. Ed's duties took him to Los Angeles, New Guinea, and Borneo. He worked for Minnesota Woolen Company as a Vice President for 30 years and an additional 18 years for Levine & Son. Ed was active in his church, The Duluth Gospel Tabernacle, having served as a Sunday School teacher, Director of the Bus Ministry, song leader, out-post worker, Trustee, Church Treasurer, and in his later years as an Elder of the church. His love for older people was evident, as he and his wife Ruth served as directors of a senior group known as "The Sonshiners" for over 22 years. Ed's philosophy of life was to provide fun, food, fellowship, and a family atmosphere for the older folk. He was editor of a monthly newsletter, The Sonshiner, which contained not only thoughtful consideration for spiritual living, but also a strong touch of humor. He enjoyed the laughter of people. Ed had a flair for writing poetry and would often give the Sonshiner annual report in the form of poetry. Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; parents, Melvin E. Molitor and Mary B. Molitor; brother, Melvin; and sister, Dorothy C. Brooks. He will be missed by his two children Nancy J. Larson (David), Larry Molitor (Claudia); four grandchildren, Todd Molitor (Jodi), Brett Molitor (Casey), Chad Larson (Angela), and Tina Jankowski (Steve). Also mourning Ed's passing are his thirteen great-grandchildren, Jacob, Ashley, & Grace Molitor, George & Max Molitor, Amariah, Maylea, Jesaias, and Jachin Jankowski, and Cadence, Camden, Eliana, and Edmond Larson. Private family burial took place on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at Sunrise Memorial Park. A funeral service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Chris Jacobson and Sunrise Funeral Home.
