Doyle Cossin, 84, of Duluth passed away on Thursday April 11, 2013. Doyle was born in Evans, West Virginia to Luther and Lydia (Loar) Cossin. He came to Duluth in 1948 sailing on the Great Lakes. He served in the 24th Infantry Division in Korea receiving several combat medals including 3 Purple Hearts, 3 Bronze Stars, and the Korean Presidential Citation. He married Judith "Judy" Gagne in 1952, and earned his Master's Degree in Education at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. He was employed with Arrowhead Engineers and Pettibone Milekin Research in Duluth. He later moved his family to the North Dakota State School of Science to accept a position as an instructor of Industrial Engineering and later became a Department Head. He returned to Duluth in 1967 to accept a position at the Duluth Technical College (now Lake Superior College). He received several distinguished awards for outstanding leadership in the education field. He retired in 1992 as Assistant Director at the College after 26 years. Later he was employed by the State Department as a consultant for the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting program. He was a member of the Disabled Veteran and the American Legion Post 71. He served the community throughout his life in numerous professional and civic organizations in leadership roles as a member of the Civil Air Patrol, Elks, Co-Chair of the Knights of Columbus fundraisers for the Shrine Children's Hospital, St. Lawrence Finance and Building Committee, and President of many Minnesota and North Dakota Education Associations. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and outdoor activities with his family, card clubs with his friends and mentoring youths. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and son Ted. He will always be remembered with love by his wife Judy of 60 years, son Terry (Cindy) of CO, daughters Debbie Cossin of Duluth, and DeAnn Cossin of CA, daughter-in-law Mary Cossin, grandchildren Charlie, Troy, and Joe Mercier, Chad and Chelsea Cossin, Britney and Zachary Simonton, and eight great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday April 17, 2013, at 11AM in St. Lawrence Church. Visitation held one hour prior to the mass. Burial in Sunrise Memorial Park.
