Obituary

Doug started his life on earth on March 17, 1969 with his parents Jerry and Hazel Babcock in Sandstone, MN. Doug completed his journey at age 50 on March 21, 2019 at which time he passed away peacefully at his home in Duluth, MN from natural causes. Doug is now in a galaxy far, far away, boldly going where no man has gone before studying the star and heavens with his grandpa Jack Babcock. Doug's pride and joy was and will always be his son, Dereck. Doug had a lifelong love for science fiction and anything Star Wars. Doug was often picked on in grade school until he joined karate. He enjoyed competing, through which he gained confidence and self-respect, achieving Black Belt status as well as driving his sisters and mom crazy with his karate moves! Doug graduated from Hermantown High School in 1987. He then joined the Army that fall, becoming a Military Police Officer, receiving many awards for his outstanding performance. Doug was honorably discharged in 1990 after three years of service. Doug worked as an IT Specialist at various places throughout his career, which included Essentia and St. Luke's Hospitals, ending his service with the healthcare field at United Health Care. Doug was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack Babcock, Edwin and Jessie Darsow, and Ann Bodell; uncles, Kenneth Darsow and Scott Bodell; cousins, Kevin and Krista Darsow; and his cats, Bielo and Bugsy. Doug is survived by his son, Dereck Williams; parents, Jerry Babcock and Hazel (Mark) Bodell; grandmother, Lois Babcock; sisters, Linda Babcock and Wendy (Ryan) Murphy; nephew, Eli Babcock; nieces, Hazel Babcock and Adah Lund; aunts, Karen (Bob) Johnson, Tammie Beavens, Jean (Rick) LaPiere and their families; uncles, Wayne Darsow, Warren Babcock, Rob (Denise) Babcock and their families; extended family, Joe Bodell Sr., Paul (Mary) Bodell, and Joe (Sheila) Bodell Jr. and his family; special aunt, Nan (Ron) Bodell Moen and her sons; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and his military family from the 984th Military Police Co. Doug will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 am on Thursday, April 18th at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, followed by a military ceremony at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery.
