Dorothy C. Symons, 94, was called by the Lord on Friday, March 1, 2013, while surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 2, 1918, in the house her dad built, Dorothy remained there to the end and passed in the bedroom above the room in which she was born. She graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1936, went on to beauty school graduating in 1937, and throughout her professional life worked as a beautician. This career included managing two beauty salons, one in Duluth and one in Superior, and finally after over 35 years retiring from the Flair Beauty Salon. She was an active 50-year member of the Eastern Star, member of the Daughters of the Nile and was an accomplished artist in the field of ceramics and numerous other crafts; all this, while single parenting two children from grade school through high school. She has left us many of her works for which to remember her, both artistically and in life lessons. As talented and skilled as she was, she remains best remembered for her compassion for her fellow man. When hearing that someone had nowhere to go for a holiday meal, she was known by her phrase "bring them along, we will just add more water to the soup". Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Archie Adams and Clara (Watts) Adams; husbands Chester Sorensen and Jack Symons; brothers Kenneth Adams and William Gordon Adams; sister-in-law Marjorie Adams; son-in-law Jeffrey Pearson; and great-granddaughter Hope Rodriguez. Dorothy is survived by daughter Clare (Jeff) Pearson; son Kenneth (Rose) Sorensen; grandchildren Karen (Joe) Matvey, Paul (Toni) Pearson, Kathie Jubie, Susan (Cory) Crandall, Carolyn (Steve) Young, Lance (Kelly) Sorensen, Nadine (Dan) Johnson, Jessica (Pat) Albrecht, and Trevor Sorensen; nephews B.I. (Tyra) Adams and Alan Adams; niece Jeanne (David) Hartwick and many cousins, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy will be sadly missed by her earthly dependents, however, widely welcomed by her eternal partners. We want to specifically thank Touching Hearts and the St. Luke's Hospice Team for their care and special gifts that helped make it possible for Dorothy to stay in her home, and to the wonderful staff at Sunrise Funeral Home for their love and guidance.
