Dorothy Christensen, 93, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on February 3, 2026. Dorothy was born and raised in Duluth Heights, only a few blocks from the home where she spent her entire life.

She met her husband, Glenn, while they were in high school, and they married in 1953. Together, they raised their three children in Duluth and shared many wonderful years at their beloved family cabin on Birch Lake. Dorothy and Glenn traveled to many destinations throughout the United States and abroad, expanding their horizons and forming lasting friendships along the way. They also enjoyed flying together locally in Glenn's two-seat Cessna airplane.

Dorothy was one of the founding members of the Creative Stitchers group and was always designing and creating something new—quilts, clothing, jewelry, and teddy bears. She displayed and sold her handcrafted creations at various venues throughout Duluth, including the Art Dock in Canal Park.

She found great joy in teaching and inspiring others to be creative. For several years, she taught adult creative arts classes at Concordia Language Villages near Bemidji. When the COVID-19 pandemic began and face masks were in short supply, Dorothy went straight to her sewing room and put her extensive collection of remnant fabrics to good use. She eventually made and donated more than 2,000 face masks to Essentia clinics.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn.

She is survived by her sons, Ross (Liza) and Kevin (Yasuyo); her daughter, Alisa; her sister, Carmen; and her grandson, Carson.

Dorothy lived her life with immense creativity, curiosity, a love of lifelong learning, warmth, joy, and kindness. She welcomed many into her home and her life with genuine hospitality and generosity. In accordance with Dorothy's wishes, there will be no service or public memorial. We hold her close in our hearts. She is deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
