Donna Mae Illikainen, 79, of Duluth, MN, passed away on February 6th at J.A. Wedum Residential Hospice. Donna was born in Duluth, MN to Stanley and Ellen (Chell) Jakubek on November 13, 1940. She graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1958. She worked as a Guidance Counselor Secretary for Duluth Central High School for 15 years. Donna enjoyed music, playing the accordion, swimming, playing music for nursing homes and community clubs, and fishing. She loved traveling to Texas and Arizona in the winter and her trips to Nashville and the Rose Bowl Parade. She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Duluth. Donna's biggest joy was watching her kids and grandchildren in their activities. Whether they were in grade school, high school, or college, she traveled the country to watch sports, attend concerts and graduations and was always there with a smile. Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Illikainen; parents; and brother, Bruce Jakubek. Donna is survived by her sons, Curt (Colleen) Illikainen, Darin (Mary) Illikainen, and Daryl (Joy) Illikainen; grandchildren, Tyler (Stephanie) Illikainen, Beau Illikainen, Nikki Illikainen, Morgan Illikainen, Molly Illikainen, Alex Illikainen, Madison Illikainen, Jenna (Samuel) Slipka, and Chad Illikainen; brother, Stanley JR Jakubek (Barb); sister-in-law, Peggy Jakubek (Jewell); nephew, Donny Jakubek; and nieces, Terri Forstrom, Lorri Jakubek and Dawn Jakubek. Visitation will be held at 1pm on Saturday, February 15th at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy, with funeral service to follow at 2 pm. A private family burial will be at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations will be directed to Note Worthy Kids (A Non-Profit organization to help financially challenged families secure music lessons, instruction and instruments for children) or J.A. Wedum Residential Hospice (To help families receive end- of-life care, in a home-like setting).
