Donald J. Spier, age 79, of Hermantown, formally of Eveleth, passed away on December 31, 2015, while surrounded by family after a courageous battle with Parkinsons and cancer. He was born on November 27, 1936, to Henry and Rose Spier. After high school, Donald served in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Lynn Spier on March 11, 1961. After serving in the Army, Donald began his career in the grocery business. Donald enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, and was an avid sports fan.   Donald is preceded in death by his wife, Lynn; parents; and siblings, Al, Ralph, Helen, Rosemary, Anita and Bernie. Donald is survived by his children; Scott Spier, Garlynn (Reed) Rosandich; grandchildren, Kyle Rosandich, Kaitlynn Rosandich, Wyatt Spier; and brother, Harvey (Sandy) Spier. A celebration of life service will be on Saturday, January 9th 2016 at 11:30 AM at Sunrise Funeral Home with Pastor Joseph officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
