Debora Ann "Deb" Holbein, 66, of Hermantown, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center after a brief but courageous battle with ALS.

Deb was born on August 29, 1959, to James and Arlene Holbein in Duluth, Minnesota. She grew up in the Central Hillside, which she proudly called her neighborhood most of her life. A natural athlete, Deb excelled in sports, especially softball, and she loved spending time outdoors camping with family and friends.

Deb was an excellent cook and spent many years at Jim's Hamburgers, where she enjoyed serving familiar faces and making new friends along the way. After its closing, she worked in commercial cleaning for several companies, eventually retiring from the Duluth Airport.

Deb was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Danise Holbein; fiancé, Mark Nelson; and sister-in-law, Anita Holbein.

Deb is survived by her sisters, Dorrine (Tim) Baker of Hermantown, Diane (Hugh Hardy) Holbein of Hibbing, and Donnell (Ted) Cackowski of Duluth; brothers, James (Julie) Holbein of Duluth, and Jay Holbein of Duluth; also many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Hilltop Healthcare for all the care and love they gave Deb during her stay there, to the staff at Essentia ER for their compassion during Deb's final hours, and to Julie Holbein for all she did to be there for Deb.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
