Obituary

It is with saddened hearts that we tell you David Horak, 84, of Proctor, MN, passed away peacefully at his home, Saturday September 28, 2024. He was born in Duluth, MN to Violet (Ruth) Horak and Henry Horak. He attended Proctor High School and graduated with the class of 1958. David married the love of his life, Joann (Cartie) Horak, in 1958. David and Joann raised four children together in the Pike Lake area.

To say he was an avid hunter and fisherman would be an understatement, and he sure would tell you a good story about the big buck, Alaska king salmon or the stringer of walleye that he got (or didn't get). He enjoyed his outdoor activities at the Cabin, and at the "Shack" in Canyon. David worked hard to support his family as a carpet layer, and then for Billman's Home Center, where he worked until his retirement in 2000. The Horak home and cabin was a welcomed place for many friends and family to gather for some fun times (with music, of course) and a daring jump off the high dive at Mirror Lake. He also enjoyed spending time in Delray Beach, meeting new friends while cheering on the Vikings (not so much for the Packers).

David was preceded in death by his son, Darren; brother, Donald; nephew, Brian; his parents; and many dear friends and family.

David is survived by his wife, Joann Horak; daughter, Lynn (Chris) Witte; son, David (Kelly) Horak; son, Daniel (Kim) Horak; grandchildren, Chantalle (Michael) Palke, Derek Witte, Kadie (Brandon) Hartman, Jared Horak, and Parker Horak; great-grandchildren, Kaden, Wesley, Jack, baby girl Palke to arrive in November; brother, Rodney (Carol) Horak; also many nieces and nephews and other family and friends. Let us not forget his doggie Cooper, who was always by his side.

At David's request, there will be no funeral service but a Celebration of Life. Please join us on Thursday, October 10, from 4-7pm at the Powerhouse Bar in Proctor.

When you remember Big Dave, we hope you'll think of how he lived his life, hardworking/adventurous and take the time to do the things you love, making memories with awesome stories to tell. "Go Vikings!!"
