Obituary

David Robert Clark, age 72 of Hermantown passed away peacefully with family at his side on July 12, 2026 after a brief battle with cancer.

David, born in Trier Germany February 11, 1954, was adopted by parents David E. and Emma Clark in 1955. David grew up in Hermantown where he graduated from Hermantown High School in 1972.

On April 16, 1980, David married Wendy, his true partner and the anchor of his life.

While David spent his early years working as a bartender and a longshoreman, he truly found his calling doing 'the Lord’s work' as a beer salesman. During his 40-plus years with Rohlfing Distributing, David kept Duluth and the surrounding communities happily hydrated, making lifelong friends at every single stop along his route.

An avid outdoorsman, David loved nothing more than making lasting memories on camping and fishing trips with his beloved wife and family. Whenever life allowed, he also loved slipping away on pheasant and grouse hunting trips with his close friends.

Always up for some friendly competition, David spent years playing basketball, softball, bowling, and pool in various local Duluth leagues. He had a rare gift for bringing people together, effortlessly turning teammates and opponents alike into lifelong friends, no matter the sport. David’s passion for sports extended to the sidelines as well, where he proudly coached elementary and middle school boys' basketball.

David will always be remembered as an adoring and fiercely loyal husband, a playful and proud father, and a man whose warm smile and quick jokes left a positive impact on more lives than anyone could possibly count.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Wendy (Scott) Clark. David is survived by his son Peter (Ann) Clark, daughter Rebecca (Ryan) Oikari; Grandchildren Colin, Ian & Wendy Oikari; siblings Richard (Sue) Clark, Barb (Leslie) Mackyol and lifelong friend Tim Nelson.

A small Visitation for close friends and family will be held on Sunday, July 26th in Hermantown. In addition, a Remembrance will be held from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 1st at the Powerhouse Bar (423 3rd Ave, Proctor, MN 55810).
