IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Darrell "Butch"
Byron Flynn
October 5, 1941 – March 15, 2024
Darrell "Butch" Byron Flynn, 82, veteran of Vietnam War, and longtime resident of Two Harbors, peacefully passed away at home, on March 15, 2024.
Butch, as he was known to most, was born October 5, 1941 to Michael and Edith Flynn, and attended Two Harbors High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served from '59-'62; during that time he worked as a boiler technician on the USS Lexington CVA-16. Butch didn't speak much about his time in the Navy but would proudly exchange stories with other veterans at the reunions.
After being discharged, Butch took some time before returning to Two Harbors. Upon returning he worked for Husky Hydraulics and Reach-All, before retiring from Labounty Manufacturing in '03.
He will be remembered by many as being a story teller, and quite the prankster. He would frequently share stories about the "trouble" he would get into playing pranks on his co-workers. While telling his stories, he would often be laughing so hard that he had to remove his glasses to wipe the tears from his eyes.
Butch was a guy who had everything and could fix anything. He could be found helping any of his family or friends with a project. He always had "just the right tool" for the job and always knew where to find it. Even when the cancer slowed him down, he would still show up for any project. He was always offering his words of wisdom and he never had a problem telling you that you were doing it wrong by simply asking, "Why are you doing it that way?"
He will be greatly missed, and fondly remembered by all.
Butch is survived by his K9 companion, Rocky; children, Michelle (Casey) Hyopponen, Amanda (Dan) Sathre, and Michael (Katie Ali) Flynn; grandchildren, Alex (Matteah Ojard), Amir, Colton, Naima, Nicholas, Jemal, and Gabi; sister, Valerie (Allen "Mac") McAllister; and nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter-in-law, Monica Cardinal.
There will be a graveside service at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery – Duluth in Saginaw, MN on Friday, May 31st at 10:00 AM. The family welcomes all who can attend.
After the service, please join the family for a reception at the Two Harbors American Legion at Noon, as we come together and honor the life of Butch.
In remembrance of Butch's life, the family asks that donations be made to the Two Harbors Legion Auxiliary. Donations can be dropped off locally or mailed to: American Legion Auxiliary, Post 109 - 614 1st Avenue, Two Harbors MN 55616.
