Daniel Parks Moland, 81, of Duluth, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2020, with his family by his side at the Solvay Hospice House after a long battle with dementia.
Dan was born in Duluth, MN on September 27, 1938. He graduated from Duluth East High School in 1957, and went on to receive a business degree from UMD. He met the love of his life, Rosemarie Sutherland, on a blind date in 1961. They were married in 1963, and spent 56 loving and devoted years together.
Dan and Rosemarie then bought and ran Tower Pines Resort on Big Sandy Lake in McGregor, MN from 1963 to 1969, and some of their guests ended up becoming life-long friends. As their family was expanding, they sold the resort, keeping a cabin for their family, and moved back to Duluth. Dan became known as the "Glass Man" owning and operating Harmon Glass in Duluth for over 30 years.
Dan was everyone's friend and was blessed with kindness, compassion, integrity and a wonderful sense of humor. Nobody ever had a conversation with Dan that did not begin and end with laughter. Even in his final days, he maintained his sharp wit, great sense of humor and kept his family and caregivers laughing and smiling. As Dan's family and friends remember him and mourn his loss, the Dan stories and shared adventures will be remembered, and the laughter will continue.
Dan and Rosemarie enjoyed spending summers with their family and friends at their cabin and winters in Florida. Dan enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and cocktail hour at the cabin.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence (Pat) and Jean Brown Moland; and brothers, Robert and James Moland.
Dan will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Rosemarie; two adoring daughters, Jill Moland of Bloomington, MN and Amy (Shane) Bubacz of Duluth, MN; beloved grandson, Spencer Bubacz; sister, Katherine (Howard) Harmon of Fripp Island, SC; Robert's wife, Marilyn of Calgary, Alberta; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family is forever grateful to his nieces Debbie Jennison and Marie Winn who provided love, care and help every step of the way.
The family would especially like to thank the staff at Benedictine Adult Day Services who provided many hours of care and companionship to Dan for the past several years. In lieu of flowers, family requests any memorials be directed to Benedictine Adult Day Services, 935 Kenwood Avenue, Duluth, MN 55811.
Dan, we love you and will miss you dearly. You made all our lives better by being a part of them and keeping us happy and laughing. Thank you.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
