Craig Jerome
Martineau
Nov 14, 1949 — May 20, 2026
Craig Jerome Martineau of Duluth, Minnesota, passed away on May 20, 2026, at Superior Health Center in Superior, Wisconsin, at the age of 77.
Craig was born on November 14, 1949, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, to William and Louise Martineau. He graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1967.
Craig worked for Bridgeman's in Grand Rapids, where he became engaged to Rebecca "Becky" Steinmeier. They were married on February 6, 1971, and celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary earlier this year. Craig was drafted into the U.S. Army on March 17, 1971, and was stationed at Fort McClellan, Alabama, for the next year and a half. After returning home to Grand Rapids, he became assistant manager at Bridgeman's before accepting a management position in Virginia, Minnesota. Later, he and Becky relocated to Duluth for another management opportunity. Craig eventually went on to work for ARCO in Superior, Wisconsin, and later served as a credit manager for a private company until retiring at the age of 65.
Craig enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life. He was a voracious reader and loved to write, especially heartfelt love letters to his beloved bride. He became an accomplished rose gardener, delighting Becky with the beautiful roses he grew at their home in Proctor. He was also an active member of the church community at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Proctor. In 2018, due to declining health, Craig and Becky left the home they had cherished for 47 years and moved to an apartment in West Duluth, where they continued to make their home together.
Craig is survived by his loving wife, Becky Martineau; his three sons, Aaron Martineau (Melissa), Nate Martineau, and Tony Martineau; and his grandchildren, Laynie, Emma, Max, Nikolas, Avery, Avah, and Jake Martineau. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Sammy Martineau.
He is also survived by his brothers, Paul, Jon, Alan, and Joseph Martineau; his sisters, Ann Aultman and Kari Raitz; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the hospice nurses and staff at Superior Health Center for their compassionate care and support.
A celebration of Craig's life will be held with family this summer.
