IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cheryl Jean
(Chergosky) Husby
December 30, 1948 – October 14, 2025
Cheryl Jean Husby, 76, passed away peacefully as a beautiful angel surrounded by her family on October 14, 2025 at St Luke's Hospital.
Cheryl was born in Minneapolis to Dorothy and George Chergosky on December 30, 1948. She went to U-High, graduating in 1966. She enjoyed harvesting wild rice, raising and running sled dogs, baking bread over a wood stove, and summer programs at Quadna resort in her twenties. She earned her B.F.A. in 1983, M.A. in 1984 both at the University of Wisconsin Superior and M.F.A. in 1986 at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
She married her husband Bob the summer between semesters. They lived above a bakery making art and saving on the heat bill in the chilly months. They started Husby Pottery bringing them across the country, including spending time living in the Florida Keys each year. She also enjoyed beauty through gardening flowers and vegetables, skiing, and playing tennis.
She will always be known for hosting and attending fun parties from New Year's Day, weekly music Monday, monthly 3rd Thursday artist potlucks, to all day theme girl parties. Her life highlights include celebrating holidays to the fullest, making the best apple pie around and cheering on her kids and grandkids. She received many accolades for her art, including 1st place in clay at Coconut Grove Art Festival. She believed in community service through her involvement on boards with the Duluth Art Institute and the Duluth Preservation Alliance.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents; and brother-in-law, Bruce Swango. Cheryl is survived by her husband, Bob Husby; son, Seth (Tracy) Draper; daughter, Elissa Husby; grandsons, Zane and Noah Draper; sisters, Barbara Swango and JoAnn (Mike) Mancuso; brother, George (Mary) Chergosky; and many loving cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the teams at St. Luke's, Mayo Clinic, Benedictine, Ecumen Lakeshore and all of those helpful hearts by her side.
