Carl Oscar Olson, 84, of Duluth, MN spent his final earthly days surrounded by family and friends and entered into eternal life on Sunday, September 8, 2019. Carl was born February 4, 1935 in Duluth to Aron and Christine Olson. He remained in Duluth until his passing.
Carl graduated from Duluth East High School. Following graduation, he served his apprenticeship for Local 11 as part of the Plumber's Union. Carl later earned his Master Plumber certification and owned and operated his own business, Carl Olson Plumbing & Heating.
In 1956, Carl was united in marriage to Gladys Jacobson. Carl and Gladys celebrated 53 years of marriage prior to her death in 2010. Together they raised five children. In 2013, Carl married a lifelong friend, Hazel Schofield.
Carl was a family man and his faith was of utmost importance to him. He was a member of Lakeview Covenant Church for most of his life and helped to build the original building at its current location. During his retirement Carl became an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He enjoyed camping, attending car, camper, and boat shows, snowmobiling, waterskiing, or going out on the lake for a spin. But more than anything, he loved his family and being active in their lives. Carl used his gifts to help build and remodel his children's and many other family members' homes. He loved going on vacations with his family and attended many church and school events to encourage them and celebrate their lives. Later in life, Carl traveled with Hazel all over the country, including driving the motorhome to Alaska to visit her family.
Carl is preceded in death by his wife, Gladys; daughter, Jeannie Jacobson; brothers, Willis, Gust, and George Olson; and his sister, Correen Erickson. Carl and his brother-in-law, Melvin Erickson, were ushered into Heaven on the same day.
Those mourning the loss of Carl include his wife, Hazel; children, James Carl (Wendy) Olson of Duluth, Judy Ann (Craig) Clements of Brooklyn Park, MN, John Edward (Dena) Olson of Maple, WI, Denise Marie (Dennis) LeMay of Duluth, and son-in-law Larry Jacobson of Two Harbors, MN. Carl was an amazing grandpa to 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and a wonderful brother to his sister, Barbara Johnson of Woodbury, MN.
Carl is also survived by Hazel's children, Rosie (Steve) Banse, Linda (Randy) Sheldrick, Teresa (Matthew) Mannhardt, Karl (Nan) Backlund, Lois (Kent) Miller, Joy (Kevin) Lyon, daughter-in-law Cinda (Doug) Fisher; 33 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren.
Carl's life made a significant impact on so many lives and he will be greatly missed here. We rejoice that he is now at rest in the presence of his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.
