Betty Loraine Carlson, 90, of Duluth, passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021 at Edgewood Healthcare in Hermantown. She was born in Cloquet on April 17, 1931 to Joseph and Elsie (Shoberg) Kiefer.

Betty grew up in Mahtowa and graduated from Barnum High School in 1949. She moved to Duluth where she met and married Edwin Carlson on July 4, 1952. They made their home in Duluth Heights where they raised their three boys.

Betty dedicated a big part of her life to family. She managed things at home while Ed worked on the ore boats. They enjoyed travel together during his winter layoffs. She enjoyed bowling, spending time at the cabin, playing cards and other social activities with her Miller Creek community.

Betty was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 69 years, Ed; parents; brother, Clarence; and sisters, Ethel and Edithe.

Betty is survived by her sons, Byron (Denise) of Duluth, Blair (Barbara) of Grand Rapids and Brad of Inver Grove Heights; grandchildren, Grant, Keenan, Eliana and Brandon; 3 great­ grandchildren; sister, Millie Eklund of Cloquet; and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the caregivers at Edgewood and CaringEdge. There will be a private family service at Sunrise Funeral Home. Interment at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery with her husband, Ed.
