On Thursday, July 26, 2018, Bernadine Ann (McDonald, Witte) Patterson, known to family and friends as Bunnie, was called to Heaven after a brief illness at the age of 81. A native of Duluth, Bunnie graduated from Duluth Cathedral High School and worked several occupations throughout her life. Her most personally rewarding was as a day care provider for 22 years. Bunnie loved spending time with family and friends; sharing old stories was a favorite past time. She really enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, Soduko, and music. She cherished many dogs throughout her life, especially her last companion, Sam. Joy of many crafts came easily to Bunnie but she excelled most as a seamstress. She sewed, altered and mended countless items of clothing for her family, herself, and many others throughout her life. Bunnie was preceded in death by her parents, Alexander "Bud" McDonald and Wilma (Kremple) Nelson; and daughter, Laura Jean (Witte) Smith. Bunnie will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jamie (Dee Ann) Witte, Julie (Jon) Viner, Donald (Stacy) Witte, Lynda (Steve) Kucera, and Joel (Katrina) Patterson; grandchildren, Melissa Witte, Jay Viner, Addison Kucera, Logan, James, & Daniel Patterson, and Jason & Jordan Smith; and great-grandchildren, Maya, Navayah & Jayden Smith. Her family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the physicians and medical staff of the Duluth Family Medicine Clinic for their exceptional support, understanding, and compassionate care. The family wishes to also express thanks to Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital for their supportive end-of-life care. Visitation: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 7th at Sunrise Funeral Home, 4798 Miller Trunk Highway, Hermantown, MN, with funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions preferred and will be used to create a memorial in Bunnie's name.
